What a treat to read ANNE OF GREEN GABLES as Lucy Maub Montgomery saw it in publication. The original art and all of the proof reading mistakes are here in this 100th year republication, but don’t let the mistakes spoil this classic tale of Anne with an E as she becomes an essential part of Matthew and Ismirella Cuthbert life. I, like most girls who were born after 1908, loved Anne of Green Gables as a child. Loved. But, darn it all, I can't remember a darn thing about her aside from the fact that even after I am old and married that I shall never forget her. Plus, we both kicked butt at school. And freckles. We shared hatred and consternation over our freckles.

This was my first time reading this book. It was almost enough to make we want to adopt a little girl RIGHT NOW. But i feel that this story is highly, highly idealized, and the reality of adopting a child would be nothing at all like this.
Anne is just so unafraid to be herself. She may be vain and clumsy and loquacious and appallingly long to hold a grudge, but she is so full of joie de vivre and she tries so sincerely to be good that her so-called faults are almost laughable. I love her zest fo ...more
