What Members Thought

Bitter miser Ebenezer Scrooge is taken on a ghostly journey of self-redemption. Stars Michael Gough and Freddie Jones. Part of the BBC Christmas 2009 season.

Though I've been familiar with the story for ages I'd never read the original until now.
The story is fantastic. It's engaging and an easy read despite a number of terms that I'm still unfamiliar with. It's justifiably a classic. I was unaware of just how faithfully the old Alistair Simm movie was to the original until now as well. It puts me in the mood to see it again.

I'm rereading this one again this year... And it amazes me every time. A Christmas Carol is everything good about Dickens and maybe about 19th century Literature.

Well, of course I have seen many aversion of this played every year at Christmas time, nothing ever compares to the book. The book is rich in detail of the sights and sounds of the time period. If you've never read the actual story you need to. The book is a delight to read, very wonderful, timeless story, maybe I will read it around this time every year. It wouldn't be a bad tradition. I really enjoyed this and thank my group for choosing it as one of our reads for this month. A great read.

Exactly what I expected - one of the few books I've read having seen the film prior to cracking the spine. Fortunately most film versions have stuck to the book fairly accurately so there were no surprises or disappointments.

Such a classic story, one that just about everyone knows the plot of, but that everyone should pick up and read.
