Just finished reading this old favorite with my 8 year old son. It was not only my favorite but my Mom's; the book was published in 1947. What little kid doesn't go through a phase of loving horses...even kids like my own who live in the city and have never seen a real horse!

This was one of my favorite books as a kid, and having just recently reread it, I must say that it was a wonderful as I remember it. What struck me was how dedicated and responsible Paul and Maureen were. Their frantic pace of horse breaking, clam digging, stall cleaning, oyster shucking, actually made me exhausted just reading about it. The actual penning day was exciting when Paul helped Misty across the channel, and made me think that nowadays, kids Paul's age would be wrapped in bubble wrap

Cute, generic horse book. Nothing spectacular, read it mostly for the location. Interested in Chincoteague and Assoteague islands. It had a little information on them. Simple, easy, clear writing, decent story.
A delightful re-read from my childhood, I enjoyed this uplifting story of children and a wild horse and her colt.
