Do you hear the sounds of feet stomping all over my house? That's the sound of the happy dance I started after finishing the 1243 pages of the unabridged Penguin translation of this wonderful book. I have never read The Count of Monte Cristo before, but my husband loves the book, so I decided to finally give it a go. I admit that the 1200+ pages were daunting to me. I'm not sure why. I just don't know about this book. I mean, it was okay. It was a classic, and I'm happy to check it off my list. It definitely had more action and intrigue than a lot of classics. Still, at times it seemed bogged down by characters who didn't really matter. I got confused and started mixing up characters after a while. None of the characters had many redeeming qualities, but the book had an interesting plot. Wouldn't have suffered from losing about 1/4 of it, though. I did enjoy it, especially t ...more

It's a reread for me and I am reading it in French but since my copy doesn't exist on Goodreads I'm using this one on my page simply because it is unabridged. I'm a fan of Dumas, I have been ever since my teenage years so am looking forward to rereading this one. ...more
