-was going to rate this four stars, but I loved the ending
-Morrel and Valentine are in my top 5 literary couples!
-such a large part of the book was squeezed into the first hundred or so pages, that surprised me

Edmund Dantes begins as a regular guy trying to make enough of a living to support the love of his life, until a ruthless competitor for her affection sets him up as a criminal.

What follows is the amazing growth of Edmund from a regular guy to a mastermind of perfectly detailed revenge until he finds the justice he needs to heal the old scars.

I enjoyed this well loved classic. Part way through my reading I also watched the most recent movie version and enjoyed that very much. The book is far more complex and detailed. I found my self a bit confused over the identities of the many characters with the wide variety French names. I found it a bit hard to follow sometimes. But that is likely just me, as I spaced out my reading and didn't stick to this one book at the time of my reading. I felt there were many parts that could have been cu ...more
