After toying with the idea of reading this book for nearly a year, I finally decided to crack the spine once I discovered that the story dealt more with the restricting utopia of Panem and their reaction to being outsmarted by a teenage girl, and having a little less to do with the actual Hunger Games. Catching Fire continues from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The emphasis is on Katniss. She continues to sneak out and hunt. She has an argument with Gale. On her way home she finds Gale being whipped 40 lashes for having a turkey in his possession with new stricter peacekeepers replacing the old ones. I didn't have high hopes for this once I realised that a return to the arena was on the cards but Catching fire has turned out to be the best book on the trilogy, for me.

It was nice to be able to spend some more time with the core characters, but all of these new people were just too much for me. I love the idea of an uprising and rebellion of the people, and found that aspect the most fascinating. Definitely not as gripping a the first book. I found myself skimming in parts and a wee bit bored at times, I am sad to say...
