After toying with the idea of reading this book for nearly a year, I finally decided to crack the spine once I discovered that the story dealt more with the restricting utopia of Panem and their reaction to being outsmarted by a teenage girl, and having a little less to do with the actual Hunger Games. I'm not saying that I think Book One (The Hunger Games) is a bad story (Note: as of this review, I have only watched the movie and not read the book), but I personally have trouble swallowing the

Excellent sequel to the first book. I actually like this one better than the first. Great story, great action and all kinds of scheming. Love it. Can't wait to move on to the finally.

This one earns the full four. Still has the slowdown in the second act with too much self-querying, but the first third and last third kept me on edge, wondering what would happen next. With Hunger Games being the first book in a known trilogy it had its disadvantages because you could almost rest assured that no one of supreme importance would get knocked off that early. Sequels by their very nature cry out for a third book. They are a bridge from the beginning tale to the end tale and as such too often stand as only a tease, a slight reflection of the stronger more sustained first and third novels. For every Godfather Part II there a dozen or more Empire Strikes Back. Even in the great Tolkien tales there is no doubt that The Two Towers is the weakest of the the Lord of the Rings.

It was nice to be able to spend some more time with the core characters, but all of these new people were just too much for me. I love the idea of an uprising and rebellion of the people, and found that aspect the most fascinating. Definitely not as gripping a the first book. I found myself skimming in parts and a wee bit bored at times, I am sad to say...

Wow I LOVE this book! This takes Hunger Games to an entire new level. I still get turned off by things that are too far fetched but enjoy this series very much. I am so engulfed in the love triangle and do not know who I want to win Katniss. Every charcter is well developed and the book keeps you clinging to read more. Great job Collins!
