I "really liked" (4 GR stars) this story of an active woman (Mairwen) who was trained almost from birth as an assassin but who escapes and tries to live life under the radar, learning what it is like to be a human with emotions. Of course, she knows how to uses weapons, and the government agency who trained her augmented some of her senses (smell, quickness, etc). She has a brain, too.

There are many planets in this book's universe. For a change in space stories, much is controlled by corporation

I enjoyed the overall idea for this story and the writing was technically good. Unfortunately, the romance overtook the story (in my opinion). If you are all about romance and like science fiction, this is a good read. I prefer a good science fiction story to have much less focus on the fluffy and gushy stuff. So, for me, not a horrible read, but just not as much my cup of tea. I also didn't realize that while this is just the first in a series, the characters from this book don't seem to carry ...more

This book has been on my TBR for awhile and I don't know why I waited so long to read it. I love the author's Ice Age Shifter books, and her sci-fi contributions to the annual Pets In Space anthologies. Characteristic of her style, Overload Flux combines sci-fi action/adventure with believable romance. The books would be great without the romance, but the romance adds that extra dimension to the characters that makes the story zip. ...more
