The afterward describes the mathematical proofs and Kurt Vonnegut quotes that inspired the stories. I think this book is my soul mate
This was a very interesting read. I often found myself setting the book down for a moment and thinking about what I had just read. Each story left me something different to think about. And while each story seemed different from the last they definitely were united by a central theme of gaining understanding.

Really interesting bunch of stories (except the second which was...less interesting). Chiang has this amazing ability to take an almost gimmicky conceit and work through it to turn it into a fully fledged story. Story of Your Life was a standout, but I also really liked "Liking What You See: A Documentary" and it's prescient in its ability to understand how the early 21st century understands the world.
