What Members Thought

Before anybody flips out about the three stars, I would like to stipulate that I do not think this book is a literary masterpiece, nor do I endorse the attitudes of the protagonist. To be quite frank, I would not have endorsed those attitudes (homophobia, misogyny, etc.) even as a teenager. I gave it three stars for exactly three reasons: first, because it is and was a hilarious con-job on the reading public; second, because Holden is the very archetype of the snotty teenage white-boy circa 1950

I didn't really like this book. I didn't really get the story. The book just tells the story of Holden Caulfied who got kicked out of school and of his journey home. I find the Holden character is annoying and overthinking of situations most of the time. He's lonely and a bit imaginative I think. Reading this book makes me feel so tired, that the first pages of the next book that I read after this feels like a breeze to my brain.
