Popsugar 2019 Reading Challenge: A book by two female authors
This turned out to be a really enjoyable book! I liked the protagonists a lot, particularly Hazel, who has a kind of contemporary Holly Golightly feel. Her quirkiness, while extreme, felt realistic, and I thought of all those times when I'd be watching a movie or reading a book and wish that the story would be centered on the eccentric best friend character rather than the bland heroine. I fell instantly in love with Hazel and Josh. I devoured the first part of the book. I was SURE that this would be my favorite Christina Lauren to date BUT. But. Reread Aug 2024 - essentially the same notes as in previous reads, but I think I'll lower the score to 3.5 stars. It's not my favorite CL. The pining seemed to go on forever. And the male narrator is just awful. He's marginally acceptable for Josh (but not good), but his other voices are terrible. The announcer at the trivia game was so bad I had to jump ahead in the story to get past it. I just couldn't listen!

This was really cute, tho with all of the 'we promise we're not dating!' books, there comes a point where you're like *stares at camera a la The Office*.
I do think there could have been one more narrative twist (it occurred to me right after reading the book), but this was a sweet read with two lovable characters. It was like, two different flavors of cinnamon roll served on the same plate. ...more
