I am not a particular fan of YA, or of chicklit for that matter so perhaps a 2 star rating is a bit unfair. There was not a lot about this book that appealed to me. But saying that, I have read YA I really like and I have also read chicklit which wasn't too bad either. Sadly, for me, this book didn't achieve either. It was just too predictable and I felt it just didn't go anywhere. I got so tired of the Simon Snow excerpts between chapters as well that I barely read them by the end as they just ...more

Most YA fiction irritates me because I don't like to be reminded of the tedious thoughts that go along with being a young adult.

But somehow this author manages to touch the happy parts of remembering and none of the tediousness. I loved this. ...more

I won't usually pick up romance novels, but I had to make an exception with this one as the MC spoke to me almost immediately just from reading the blurb. Plus the unusual focus on fan culture and fandom was very intriguing. I had it for a lot of years before I finally got around to reading it but I'm glad I did now. I may not share all of Cath's interests and priorities, but our introverted personalities are so similar I kept on reading.
