Yes, it's a kid's book, and yes, it's blatant, but it's fun.
I don't remember when I wrote the previous review, but I decided it was time to read it again. It's still a kid's book. It's still blatant. It's still fun. But this time around, I find myself thinking it'd be fun to read it next time with a particular goal in mind - like considering the various creatures in the story, or to more carefully examine the White Witch. I'm glad I read it again.

Books written in this era always seem to have a strange sense of morality, and the characters can be a bit cartoonish, but this book is masterful if you accept it for what it is: a classic from another time. I read it to my children, and we loved it.
