This is another book that got put on my to-read list forever ago when I was trying to compile a list of books to read to my young children. Those young children are now 19 and 15. I was tempted to just delete this one and move on, but the high reviews caught my attention and I decided to give it a go.
The book is written with younger readers in mind (5th or 6th graders). I did enjoy the story and appreciated references to other fairytales. My daughters would have liked it when they were young.

Cimorene is a princess, but unlike others wants more than a prince and a castle of her own. She goes off to find adventure and meets it in the dragons, where she becomes what amounts to a scullery maid, cleaning up after dragons, and being treated nearly as invisible as any servant.
However, it doesn't end there, and the plot line gets more complicated, but still simple enough to be followed by the average adolescent.

I vaguely remember reading this book when I was in Middle School, but I thought it was just as enjoyable as an adult. It was fun and light-hearted. I loved how there were many interesting female characters and that Cimorene didnt just wait around for a prince to rescue her. I liked that the dragons were there own characters and had their own culture.
A very fun little story of a princess who doesn't act like a princess. I was a little disappointed in Cimorene at the beginning of the book, but the sarcastic flavor of the storytelling and the story itself were delightful. Witty, charming, fun romp I read in one sitting.

Great book for kids that reminds them that learning is useful and there's no need to just be a boring princess.
