This was a collection of animal stories, most but not all set in India, with about half of the book taken up by Mowgli's story--not one of my favorites although I do get a lot of giggles over what an arrogant little know-it-all Mowgli is--but also containing the adorable Rikki Tikki Tavi who definitely is a favorite. 2. It's okay. A lot of the stories are familiar and the last (Her Majesty's Servants) really speaks to the time it was written. My favorite is Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.

I grew up watching the Disney animated movie and didn't realize as a child this was inspired by a book. It was fun to read the inspiration behind the movie and see some familiar characters. I didn't realize, however, that the novel is more than just the story of Mowgli. There are other animal stories in this that are not connected to Mowgli in any way. Overall, it was a fun book to read.

Childhood Favorite
One of my favorite books since childhood, I reread it every few years. I prefer the Mowgli stories, but tried to focus more on the other animal stories this time through. Don't tell on me ... Sometimes I skip them. I don't think I ai again. They are marvelous takes in their own right. ...more
