“I guess you could call it a "failure", but I prefer the term "learning experience.”
Finally! I got the chance to read Andy Weir’s bestselling classic (now turned into a movie) “The Martian” and now I am seriously kicking myself for not reading this book sooner! Who would have thought that I would be reading a science fiction novel that is full of adventure, drama and humor?
The book starts off with a space crew going on Mars to explore the red planet when suddenly, a dust storm shows up and t ...more

I can't believe I waited SO long to read this. It's been a long time since a book has simultaneously made me laugh out loud, fed my math and science nerd heart, and caused considerable stress. Also, R.C. Bray was a brilliant narrator for the audiobook!

The Martian - Andy Weir

Bring him home. I want to be there when Mark Watney finally returns to Earth. I like the guy, He’s smart. He’s funny. He has the most unbelievable luck. In addition to creating a very engaging protagonist, Andy Weir obviously knows what Defoe proved almost 300 years ago; a desert island survival story makes very compelling reading. This was an incredible book, especially for a self published piece. Kept me up all night reading even I really needed to get up early the next day. Some of the how to details got slightly...I hate to say tedious...but the dark humor carried it through. I literally bust out laughing multiple times while reading this. Note for more sensitive readers: I have never seen the word 'sh*t' on a page. And the f-bomb gets liberally utilized. But seriously had me laughing through some gripping times.

An ALA Alex Award-winning book, this is a fantastic tale of survival, humor, and ingenuity. Despite the fact that the very first sentence will raise eyebrows on any parents who wish to shield their young adults from profanity, this is a book worthy of anyone over the age of 13. It is an emotional roller coaster ride filled with dramatic events and an intense view of a man’s inner thoughts.
