This was a lovely tale of light, and helped cement my gratitude for children's authors like Kate DiCamillo.
That being said, I was slightly uncomfortable with the characterization of Miggery Sow--she is mentally slow, she is fat, and she becomes one of the story's villains. Of course, some of the world's villains are unintelligent. Of course, some of the world's villains are fat. Just as some are smart, and some are thin. This is a very favorite book and a particularly special book to read aloud to a class or even your own child. I don't want to see the movie for fear of disappointment, the characters and story was so vivid to me as a reader. If anything is different I will feel betrayed.

I started out reading this to my 7 year olds, but we didn't have time every night to read it and so they got a little lost. I finally decided to finish it and I'm not sure if they would have been able to follow the story even if we read it more consistantly. It is a little dark but has good messages throughout. I think my children will eventually enjoy this book, but not for about 3 or 4 more years.

The book is glorious! What a fun adventure and Kate is apt to rope the reader in and snag their attention. What a wonderful tale that just makes you feel some warm and fuzzy inside. There are some big words that the author encourages the reader to discover the meaning through deduction or research and the fairy tale-esqe book is one to delight those of all ages and species.
Not my cup of tea. I didn't enjoy the writing style, the story line, or the characters (except for Miggery Sow).

I read this before the movie came out... Good book. I haven't seen the movie. I wonder which is better...
