[close] The ‘Drowning Pool’, has been the site of many deaths. Nell Abbott lived in the Mill House by the river her entire life and was compiling a history of the ‘troublesome’ women who died there; stories of witchcraft, suicide, ghosts, and murder. Nell is the latest victim to die, following the suicide of her daughters’ best friend Katie, 15. Hawkins, in my opinion, tells a first –rate, suspense story. I was surprised at the number of critical reviews which referenced too many characters and/or unlikeable characters. Ridiculous. Try reading a Russian novel. I listened to the Audible editions and found the multiple narrators superb: Laura Aikman, Rachel Bavidge, Sophie Aldred, Daniel Weyman, Imogen Church. Highly recommended for all mystery fans.
