Once I got used to reading the dialogue without quotation marks, I couldn't put it down. An itinerant reader of the news comes upon a friend who needs someone to escort a freed child captive to her relatives. The captain agrees to take the child with him on his travels through Texas and they eventually make their way to her aunt and uncle.
