Dawkins is one of my top picks for the most articulate, engaging and proficient scientists I've read to date. The Blind Watchmaker turned out to be a very prolific piece. I was baffled by his logical analogies, most excellent examples and extremely engaging vernacular.

Dawkins' book is in essence a rebuttal of William Paley's 1802 work, Natural Theology, the basis for the current Christian argument known as "intelligent design". What is interesting about Dawkins' book is not that it rebutes Paley's argument (an argument that has been proven in numerous scientific and philosophical journals and books as being invalid) but that it uses the theory of evolution to do so.

I would think this is a good book to start if you're interested in evolutionary biology and a beginner in the topic, but not if you have sufficient knowledge of it and wanting to learn something new. I found it slow going; not by fault of Dawkin's, but my own failing to have read it first before any other books of the same theme.
