This is my first reread of this book. Loved the story, loved the plot, loved the atmosphere and love the writing. The pacing was rough.

This was a fantastic story unrolled for the reader with impeccable timing. Books that attempt to be thrillers/mysteries can often seem rushed at the end and when done poorly often either summarize and tie up loose ends with information never provided to the reader or just left loose. In this case neither of these travesties happened. Shelves: historical-fiction

I really liked the gothic atmosphere, the plot and the characters of this book. It is a very good of example of historical fiction/mystery.
I especially liked Daniel and Fermin. The writing and decription of Barcelona is also beautiful.
However, the pacing of the book was really slow and some bits felt a bit repetative in the third quarter of the book.
Overall, it is a very good book and I will read the other books in this series because of its atmospheric writing style.

So many of my bookish friends loved this book that I went in with high expectations. That was probably wrong from the start. I'll admit that I got into the first 50 pages or so, but the plotline just moved too slow for my taste and I got bored easily. I would put this book down and found that I wouldn't pick it up for several days and even when I did, I only read two chapters or so.
