If one is truly American, there should be some concern for America's future present within the mind and soul. Human beings are fauna and must fight tooth and nail for existence. No matter how much modernity wishes to pout and stamp its feet, race is real. It is not a construct, but rather a very important thing which has always been relevant and is a legitimate, perhaps unavoidable, part of the decision-making process. It is not a construct, but rather a very important thing which has always been relevant and is a legitimate, perhaps unavoidable, part of the decision-making process. Even if it is has been some figment of our collective imagination, it is a fantasy we will not abort so readily. One of many pieces of evidence for this can be found here, although anyone who adheres to common sense will likely not need any further affirmation:
Genetic Similarities Within and Between Human Populations

An excerpt from page 286 provides a decent overview of the work:
"This book will have been a success if at least a few readers have become open to the possibility that the following statements are true: People of all races generally prefer the company of people like themselves. Racial diversity is a source of conflict, not strength. Non-whites, especially blacks and Hispanics, nurture a strong sense of racial pride and solidarity. Whites have little sense of racial solidarity, and most whites strongly condemn any signs of it. Immigration from non-European countries is changing the United States in profound ways, many of which whites find disagreeable. To the extent that these statements are true, they have serious implications both for the country as a whole and for whites as a group."

1. People of all races generally prefer the company of people like themselves:
Not only has self-segregation been rampant since Brown v. Board, all sovereign entities through the annals of history have been formed so that people who share a common link may live together (i.e., one would not choose to live with one they would not like to live with). There is no Self without the Other, and the realization that this makes both groups better and is not tantamount to hatred is essential.

2. Racial diversity is a source of conflict, not strength:
Diversity is merely another problem to be solved. There are no clear benefits to diversity unless it is affirmed as an absolute virtue in and of itself. In concrete terms, it is just another thing that people have to take into consideration, otherwise known as a hindrance. Again, there is no group that has diversity as a goal. Rather, what diversity means is that the minority group wins tangible gains for itself while the majority group, which invariably remains separate, prostrates itself. The only reason to view it as a strength is to convey a sense of false optimism about a salient issue.

3. Non-whites, especially blacks and Hispanics, nurture a strong sense of racial pride and solidarity:
If this were not the case, these groups would not exist in the first place and would outright reject any such labels. They would have been swallowed up long ago in the cavity of the great melting pot. The stonger the ingroup identity, the weaker the outgroup identity. In this case, oddly enough, the outgroup is comprised of their own countrymen. To many, "White America" is not real America, though our country was founded on the assumption that everyone retaining citizenship would be part of the same nation rather than fractured in confederacy.

4. Whites have little sense of racial solidarity, and most whites strongly condemn any signs of it:
Even worse than condemning actual racial solidarity is the notion that even hinting at its shadow is highly sinful. All other groups are allowed this for themselves without question. This odious crime would not exist in the first place if all the hostile groups which have been so indiscriminately cobbled together lived among themselves in localities without such conflict.

5. Immigration from non-European countries is changing the United States in profound ways, many of which whites find disagreeable:
Just as it is unjust to force ourselves upon others, so it is vice versa, otherwise it is a double standard. The author gives the hilarious example of a gringo invasion of Mexico, which not only represents the absurd nature of such patterns of immigration but also of its reprehensible nature. Resistance in any and all capacities would be justified and capitulation would only follow clear defeat. In a democracy, if the citizens do not like something, it is the responsibility of their representatives to remedy the shortcoming in question whether or not it may be disagreeable to one person or another. What is frightening is the realization that "majority rules, minority rights" will soon enough apply to a group of people completely disconnected with the old America. Whether or not one believes this to be a tragedy, such circumstances would certainly be epochal. Democracy may very well swallow its own ouroboros tail.

Some of the book is dryly repetitive and somewhat disorganized. Rather than give a handful of statistics and examples delineating the failure of American race relations, the author instead chooses to inundate the reader with factoids, one after another, until the deluge simply cannot be suppressed. Such material may prove valuable for the uninitiated, but someone who is already more or less on the same page will feel a bit of deja vu and easily predict the outcome of the next "what if." These innumerable data points are infrequently complimented by bits of laconic commentary. From the title, I was expecting something a little more long-winded and grandiose and was somewhat disappointed at the apparent baseness of the work in this regard. Despite this, the arguments set forth are very clear and well-supported, not to mention of the utmost direness. The intention of the work is to raise awareness in a straightforward fashion and it has certainly achieved this. ...more
