Be warned! Apart from the common thaumaturgical components this book contains ethically challenged magical practitioners (less politically correct readers might call them black magicians), severed talkative heads, teeth where they utterly totally completely do NOT belong and multiple detached male genitalia.
Reading that last paragraph lets me surmise that reading Ben Aaronovitch is not going to leave me unscathed. If I indeed read all six Peter Grant books in one go I might require some serious ...more

This series is just as good the second time around as it was the first time I read it. In fact, it's even better, as I'm not rushing through it, desperate to know who done it. Now I'm savoring the funny bits and enjoying the wonderful characters.

”Ghosts, memories — I wasn’t sure there was a difference.”
A good indicator that you’ve discovered a first-rate series is when the second book in the series is better than the initial one that hooked you. That’s the case with Moon Over Soho. Aaronovitch turned up the heat as he laid down the cool in this one.

Only two books in to this series, but already the characters are starting to feel familiar - in a good way. This book sees a bit more development of Peter's family and extended acquaintances. If I'm going to be picky, I sometimes think that the protagonist, Peter, is just a little too perfect, but perhaps that's just a hint of 'unreliable narrator' being thrown in deliberately by the author.
Anyway, this is another good tale. Apart form the current mystery at hand, there is also more revealed abo ...more

Good magic murder mystery with all of Aaronovitch's love for history and sarcasm. I did not like Simone and felt that whole part of the story was leading up to its very predictable end. Other than that, I enjoyed this book (maybe not as much as the first) but I look forward to reading more. The last chapter practically forces one to want to pick up the next book.

Really enjoyable. I think even better than the first one in the series

Enjoyed the whole jazz backdrop used in this story and getting to know more about Peter’s parents. This was a story that successfully handled a number of different characters and kept the focus on the storyline. Everyone was interesting and the story kept moving. Magic in the modern world is fleshed out more in this second of the series. The author is clearly experienced in how to build a believable scenario where one can actually see how this can happen in a world I current live in. Hate stoppin

After finishing the second book, I now understand why some critics call the Rivers of London series a blend of CSI and Harry Potter. Glad I scoured about for the entire series; it's a great winter binge.

Ben Aaronovitch's Moon over Soho is so entertaining it has me laughing, giggling, and chuckling all the way to work. Drivers beside me giving me peculiar looks, none the less! Obviously I listened to the audiobook, and an English accent made it all the more entertaining. On to the next one!
