Really enjoyed this book, being from London (me old china) it really encapsulated the essence of living in the big smoke. The characters work well together and the concept of magic and the real world has obviously been done before (apples and pears), however, it has a neat twist on the usual genre. Please ignore any references to Harry PissingPotter these are far better than that dross. Take a pinch of Pratchett and add smidgen of Gaimen and you have a good omens vibe in the style. didn’t write the review immediately after reading, because I wanted to start the next in the series, to see if it was a fluke….
This series is hard to describe. An urban fantasy set in London. Imagine if a character from Hogwarts grew up and became a cop. There’s magical stuff and crime drama and interesting history as well. I recommend it for anyone looking for something a little “different”…..

A fun book that I enjoyed listening to. The narrator's breathless reading got annoying at times, but it wasn't terribly distracting. I think I will give the second book in the series a try.

What a tepid review for the first book in a series that I quickly came to love. The audiobooks are among my favorites of the format. “It may not stick with me forever”? Ha, very far from accurate! Having read all the main novels and a couple of novellas, I’m impatiently awaiting more of Peter Grant—more of his humor, generosity, and insight into the myriad injustices he encounters in the course of policing weird bollocks.

This whole series is easily my favorite one to read right now and this book starts things off to a bang. To a lot of my friends, I recommend this as "Harry Potter meets Law and Order", but it is much deeper than that too, and the cultural references to mythology and history only get deeper with each book, not to mention the neediness. For any fan of science fiction, fantasy, and a good old fashioned mystery, this book is for you.

Just recently been introduced to these series of books. Set in the UK. Specifically London where we discover there’s a top secret department in the Metropolitan Police Force to deal with Magic users, Ghosts, Gods of The River Thames and the supernatural. So good I literally couldn’t put it down. Cannot wait to find out how it progresses through each book in the series. Very good. If you’re from London you’ll love the little references to specific landmarks and places.
