I'm starting to sound like a broken clock at this point but Kearns writes freaking fantastic opening chapters. She really does! My main issue with her writing has been that she hasn't always maintained that level of pacing and excitement in the subsequent chapters. On one hand that's understandable; you can't have the main characters jumping from one crazy, violent scenario to the next throughout the whole book. It wouldn't work.
