I keep letting booktube trick me into thinking certain books will be the best thing since sliced bread only to read them and find that they're... okay, I guess? This is one such example. Maybe it's just reading YA as an increasingly adult adult, but it did not do it for me. There was a lot of over-telling of facts that had been clear for a while already, a lot of twists that left me lukewarm, and an open ending that, despite knowing that it's only a duology, didn't really manage to convince me t ...more

I really wanted to like this more. I felt it was a bit difficult to follow in the middle of the story. The ending leaves off on a cliff hanger so it does make me want to read the second one, but only for some closure. I didn't feel attached to the characters. They just seemed so flat.
