I started out thinking I would end up liking this book better than I did.
The writing is pretty good, the story has an interesting premise. Where things started to sour for me I guess has to do, yet again, with the fact that that this is the first book in a series and not a complete story on its own. Everything here seems like backstory, building up for the next installment. If you are looking for a literary world that perfectly blends fantasy and science fiction together, The Fifth Season is a perfect selection. The world N.K. Jemison presents in this novel is strange and captivating while at the same time feels familiar. Absolutely outstanding fantasy.
Took me a little while to settle into the world NK Jemisin has built but once I did I was happy to be swept along with the characters & the story.
Highly recommended.
