Disorienting in a good way. It's somewhat of an odd mix of elements: psychic powers, anti-pyschic powers, time travel (or is it?), "half-life" after death, an underlying critique of consumerism. It's hard to prescribe too much meaning to it all, as it's a pretty mixed up jumble, and somewhat purposefully so. But I couldn't put it down after getting halfway through - just trying to filter the signal through the noise and understand the world pushed me onward and I was compelled to finish reading.

I've been told often that this is PKD's best novel, and from my limited exposure so far, I would have to agree. Ubik predicts the mundane inanity of our current moment better than any sci-fi I've read, and has us right along with the characters, yearning for escape from the mundane hell that we find ourselves in.

I don't f with this as much as the later pure hangout Cali books, but it was still good. Had a real Twilight Zone ending.
