Fourth book in the Dublin Murder Squad series, and Scorcher Kennedy is the main detective in the Spain family murders. Two children and the father wind up dead, and the lone survivor is Jenny Spain- the matriarch. She's pretty battered and in a coma. Will she survive to explain what happened? I have loved all of Tana French's thrillers and this one did not disappoint. I think these characters were a bit more complex, and I can not say I liked them all....but they meshed together to create a page turner. Schorcher had to deal with breaks in his neat and tidy world he had created and showed that he too had his own flaws. I loved the Richie character, and felt somewhat sorry for him as he struggled with his own morals. I love the way French builds each book around a character found in ...more

Wanting the lifestyle of an upscale community, the Spain’s purchase a home in Brianstown, Ireland formerly known as Broken Harbor. Because of the countries recession and loss of jobs, the building comes to a screeching halt leaving the community looking like a run-down ghost town. This is where the bodies of the four members of the Spain family are found, father and two children murdered with the mother in a coma fighting for her life.
