Secrets, extraordinary gifts, and time travel and just a few of the things inside this book. The story kept me interested as it followed a boy (Jacob) through his adventures to discover the secrets behind his grandfathers death (and life). This journey leads him to discover things about himself as well as new friends.

The vintage photographs in this book are certainly interesting in themselves and leads me to wonder if the author constructed the story based on a selection of these photographs, ra

I thought this is a good book. I really enjoyed reading it. I love the plot and characters of the story. Jacob is such a great main character. I can not wait to read the next book.

Imagine that your boss gives you a stack of black and white photos. Then she demands that you come up with a story that incorporates every photo. She adds that the deadline for this task is 8:00am tomorrow. This must have been the situation that Riggs was in. I listened to it as an audiobook (a first for me) and it was gripping. (The actor's British accents are dire however and I found it quite distracting.) ...more

A fantastical, fun story complete with unusual children, a remote island, strange creatures and time travel.
Jacob no longer believed the stories his grandfather told of a mystical island, a home filled with children with incredible powers and the monsters that hunted them. But upon the suspicious death of his grandfather, Jacob is determined to travel to this magical island and learn of his grandfather's past. In uncovering the secrets of his grandfather, Jacob discovers his own strengths and p

I really liked this book, mainly because it was so different and had a similar vibe as Night Film did by using old pictures as artifacts. Very cool idea. Definitely recommend giving it a read!

⭐⭐⭐ and a half for the photos but the story was just OK and very common, maybe the next one will have something more.
