So I was a little scared to read this books because there is so much hype surrounding it. Honestly I am SO happy that I finally did. I LOVED this books. It was funny, it had a lot of action as well as romance, amazing characters, i literally could not put it down.

Look. I don’t know why people are so invested in Nina and Matthias’ romance, because I don’t get it. Matthias is kind of the worst person on the planet (sexist, xenophobic, misogynistic, etc). And Leigh Bardugo is just like “oh, him, he just needs a woman who he DOESN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE AS HUMAN to fix him and show him the way!!! Yayayay romanceeee!” I mean, sure ship who you like, this is fiction after all, but don’t crucify me for liking the Darkling (different series) because this idi 2.5 stars

Look. I don’t know why people are so invested in Nina and Matthias’ romance, because I don’t get it. Matthias is kind of the worst person on the planet (sexist, xenophobic, misogynistic, etc). And Leigh Bardugo is just like “oh, him, he just needs a woman who he DOESN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE AS HUMAN to fix him and show him the way!!! Yayayay romanceeee!” I mean, sure ship who you like, this is fiction after all, but don’t crucify me for liking the Darkling (different series) because this idiot (and by this idiot I mean Matthias) is way worse. The absolute hypocrisy of it all! Also, if I have to read the Crows “solemnly” chanting “no mourners, no funerals” one more time... I think the author really thought she did something there, but it’s just annoying and the repetition renders any ~depth~ the statement might have had nonexistent. Overall this book was your average YA novel. Mostly cringe, but easy to read nonetheless, and quite entertaining.

Edit: One other thing. Why are all the characters 16-18 years old? They could (and should) be AT LEAST in their twenties. These literal children are out gambling, drinking, killing, stealing and are acting like straight up adults. Why couldn’t they just be adults? I have a hard time believing that Kaz, the 17/18 year old is the most feared criminal in the barrel. Just imagine this child establishing a reputation at age 15 or less? That’s so unrealistic! Look, teens could hypothetically achieve this (highly doubtful, but sure, I’ll indulge you). But why though? Why couldn’t they just be young adults? It just makes no sense. Also, the weird ~sexy time~ that the author tries to create with her minor characters (and by minor I mean underage) is kind of gross. Inej saying “will you have me with your clothes on” to Kaz... was honestly both cringe inducing and a bit repulsive. She is 16 years old! There’s nothing wrong with teens exploring their sexuality in literature, but only if it serves a purpose. Otherwise it’s just gratuitous content that doesn’t serve the plot. As I said, all the characters could be adults. There is no reason for them being teens. I might be wrong, but it felt like the author wanted to write about actual children having sex and that doesn’t sit right with me. Stop sexualizing and romanticizing being a teenager! ...more

THIS WAS SUCH AN ADVENTURE! I really enjoyed every page of this book. These are some badass characters! I love that this crew is made up of the "bad guys" (but not really). I LOVE KAZ. I LOVE INEJ. I can't explain how amazing this book is. Reading it was like falling in love with a whole new world and characters. I really, enjoyed this book. I loved everything about the characters. It's everything you want from a fantasy fiction.

It's set in the Ketterdam- a dangerous city of violence. There are six main character in the book and has multiple POV. Getting a POV from each of them helped to provide depth to the characters. Each of them had difficult past which shapes their characters. Kaz is I can't explain how amazing this book is. Reading it was like falling in love with a whole new world and characters. I really, enjoyed this book. I loved everything about the characters. It's everything you want from a fantasy fiction.

Kaz is offered with a dangerous proposition of breaking into the Ice court, for which he has been offered a lot of money, but obviously he can't do it alone.

My favorite aspect of the book is the characters and the back story of the characters were interesting. And, finally thing I loved the most. There's, Kaz the 17 year old thief who is mysterious and seeks revenge for something which is happened in the past. His character is complex and flawed. He's smarter than everyone, cooler than everyone and crueler than everyone.He's got nickname "dirtyhands" for his brutal morality. He walks with a cane and never takes off his gloves. He's the man with all the plan. He drives the action and, I think he's got the best lines in the book.

Inej- She's incredibly strong and goes out for her own aspiration. She feels secure with her knives. She's the light-footed spy , she also has a gift of stealth never making, any sound as she moves simply known as "wraith". Kaz's secret keeper. I love Inej’s quiet determination, and her relationships with others–particularly Kaz.

Nina- The Grisha Heartrender, with magical ability to heal and calm. Matthias- Soldier of the Ice Court, the shamed Grisha hunter and prisoner with a murderous grudge against Nina who betrayed him. I enjoyed all his conflicts and the growth of his character.

And there's Jesper, the sharpshooter and the gambler and Wylan, the runaway privileged son with his demolition skills. They're the most adorable characters and managed to make the story light with the drama and dialogues. The pair were obvious from the beginning, Nina and Matthias were really fun.

The story line was captivating from start to finish, you'll be hooked with the story line of the six amazing characters. It's a brilliant book with amazing characters and great writing. You should honestly read this book. It's a great read.

Recommended to those who like fantasy and adventure.

Well, well, well... There is quite an amazing story hiding behind this brilliant cover^^ I took me 5 hours to finish reading and I'm pleasantly surprised with the story and characters, even though most of them are as cliche as possible. At first I was a bit disappointed that the whole story takes place in the same universum as Shadow and Bone but... it is much better written! I am also greatful that there is no single comic relief and all of the characters have something witty to show!

I enjoyed this overall 👌 I think maybe the hype surrounding this book, took away from what I thought it was going to be. I was constantly asking where the action was... Then you would get a lil taste, then backstory on each character. Definitely diving into book two to find out what happened to my friends!
