My initial impression as I started reading The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, was that it was a cross between Firefly and Farscape. That was mostly correct. I just finished this, and my heart is full. The heart of this book is the characters and their connection. I was drawn in from the start, feeling invested in these characters and their story. Like others have said, it gives Firefly vibes in a wonderful way.

This was such a heartwarming story. It reminded me a lot of Firefly and a LOT of Star Trek. There's some conflict toward the second half of the story, but it has that warm comforting feel of curling up to watch a Star Trek episode where you know the crew will win out in the end and your faith in humanity will be restored. It's very much about the characters and their relationships and I found all of them endearing in their own way. I didn't want the story to end.
