It was a complex yet entertaining story. It reminded me that marriage can be complicated and hard at times. Sometimes we feel obligated to someone because we're married to them, yet we truly are not in love anymore.

What I felt was strange about the writing is the while each chapter was from a character's POV, the characters hardly ever referred to their parents as Mom or Dad. Well, they did in their dialogue, but not in their thoughts. It just stood out as strange to me, but not too important. ...more

Shelves: highly-recommend

If i had known before I put this on my reading list way back when that it was an Oprah book, I might not have read it. I have no problem with Oprah's selections, but the rebel in me doesn't want to pick a book just because a celebrity with enormous reach tells me I should.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book a great deal. Actually, enjoy is the wrong word. This book made me uncomfortable. As a white woman, I caught myself saying "That wouldn't happen", but yes, I suspect that it actually does. At t ...more
