A superb sequel that elevates the series.

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of RJ Barker's Wounded Kingdom series, and when I recently reread the first book in the Tide Child trilogy I was once again reminded how much I love his stories and I kept on thinking about the story and the characters long after that reread. So when the time came around for myself, TS and Petrik to resume our buddy read with the Call of the Bone Ships I was more than excited to plunge into this world again and ...more

Oh man this book was even better than the first. In the first book we meet Joron when he's at his absolute lowest and get to watch him build himself up with the guidance of Lucky Meas. And in this book Joron gets thrown through the ringer and really goes through all of this sometimes without that guidance of Luck Meas and watching him kind of figure out who he is now on his own was a delight.

Audio narrator continues to do a great job. I really enjoyed seeing Joron grow into his own in this book, and the Guillaime continue to be one of my favorite aspects of the story. The book starts out with a gut punch, and doesn't really stop punching--which is proper for book 2 of 3, imo. Joron has gained the experience and confidence needed to sail forward on his own, and now the supports are being ripped away... onward to book three! ...more
