Although I did not enjoy this book overly when I read it a few years ago, one concept has stuck with me. Beauty has access to a library of everything that has ever been written. I've recently been attending a class on Greek Mythology, wherein we have read things like the Iliad, the Odyssey, and poetry by Sappho. This is a good retelling of the story Beauty and Beast. It had a good characterization of Beauty and her family. Finally, the development of the relationship of Beauty and the Beast is very natural and magical. It is the most beautiful and enjoyable part of the book. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves ...more

I found out about this book through reading Jim Hines's book Libriomancer, in which it was mentioned. A nice retelling. I can definitely see how this is the basis of the Disney movie version. ...more

I absolutely love the story of Beauty and the Beast, but I rarely find one that makes me have all the feelings of the movie with a bit of a twist. This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. ...more
