Before we start the formal review process, lets just get one thing out in the open: I loved this book. One of my favorites read so far this year.
Normally, I wouldn't necessarily classify myself a big fan of the mystery genre, and I have never had the pleasure of even attempting to read an actual detective novel before. However, I knew that if any author had the potential to change that for me and leave me feeling like it was a positive experience, it would be good old JK Rowling. I was not disa ...more

I don't know how to review this without revealing too much.
If you love Agatha Christie you would at least like this. If you love Sherlock Holmes you'll be a bit thrown out but I think you'll still like this.
Just.
You just need to read this.

Exceptional
Excellent mystery. Far exceeded expectations. Rowling has gotten her craft polished to near perfection. I really liked this book…not just the mystery, which is as good as any Block or Collins mystery (and those two are all-time), but the likability of the characters. Harry Potter isn’t my cuppa tea, but Cameron Strick, er, Cormoran Strike (and Robin) is right up my alley. Bravo.

While I enjoyed Gilbraith's prolific writing skills, it was evident that this was the author's first ever detective novel. The descriptions of the places and emotions were both detailed and evocative, but it was also unnecessary several times. I particularly enjoyed how Gilbraith has managed to write the various accents of some of the characters which significantly added to the characters' persona. She has also done an immaculate job of developing the key characters and there were times when Cor

I was pretty exicted for this book, obviously, because it was written by the J.K rawling, but I hate to admit that just didn't like this book. The pace of this book was like a turtle walking with a broken limb. The mystry was predictable; i was about 100ish page through when i became sure of who the killer was. The back story of the detactive and her assistant was so boring and unnecssary that i didnt even brother reading it. It's a hefty book mostly filled with crap. The stroy could have been c
