I'm just so happy that (view spoiler)
I'm sad that it took me so long to pick up this series. It's everything that's good with a good fantasy book, even though it was a bit predictable. ...more

Robin Hobb is an emotional storytellerI don't know how better to describe her style of writing. She really knows how to speak to the heart and the simplest of gestures can weigh heavily on the soul.
I could have lived my whole reading life reading about Fitz's childhood. Even the every day mundane things was perfectly fine with me. I usually don't like those, but Robin Hobb knows how to make it meaningful.
I already have the second book. I might need a breather before I begin it. ...more

Wow. So. So. GOOD. I don't know if I've ever underestimated a book like I did this one when I initially read the summary. I am going to read this series and everything else Robin Hobb has written for sure. Rarely have I been made to feel the loss of the characters in a work of fantasy (if ever) than in this book. I felt it from the very first chapter when Fitz wasn't even named yet. So many dramatic threads in this: the Red-Ship Raiders, his upbringing and estrangement from Burrich, Chade, Regal

This book was good, it wasn't what I was expecting and the writing was really cool! I did find some parts to be boring and overall the story was slow for me but I will be picking up the next books and I'm really looking forward to it!

I haven't been hooked on a fantasy series for years (I guess the long wait for Kingkiller Book 3 and GRRM's The Winds of Winter doused my interest in this genre for a long while) until I got introduced to Farseer Trilogy recently--I wish I started earlier lol. I like how intricate the plot is and I appreciate that it's not centered heavily around a love story like a lot of books are. I feel like the chapters all are pieces of a puzzle and not just space-eating ramblings like Robert Jordan often

I picked it up and put it down so many times through the beginning/middle. It was a bit slow but that may have been because I was trying to read it to help my anxiety about teaching with covid in my classroom every day...
The end was a whirlwind, so action-packed in the last 3-4 chapters 😵
I enjoyed it and I'll definitely read the rest of the series. ...more

I ripped through this book. I had it around for years. When an artist friend mentioned she liked the trilogy I was finally motivated to pick it up. Wow. It is like the wheel of time but more easier to understand. I’m glad there are at least 8 more books in the three series .
