despite the slow start, babel comes to an explosive (quite literally) end.
if you are looking for a character driven book that prioritises the found family trope and dynamics between characters, this might not be the book for you. however, i found this to work in favour of the story. babel is a challenging read not just because of the heavy focus on linguistics and theory, but because of it's unflinchingly honest portrayal of the violence and consequences of revolution and decolonisation. ...more

Don't let the boring sounding title fool you. This is top-notch fantasy used to discuss weightier issues. A well-done audiobook production as well. 4.5 stars.

DNF at 50%
For a book that I have had the highest of expectations for this year, it has ended up being the book that has disappointed me the most this year. To the point that I dragged myself through the first 50% of the audiobook and I had to then DNF it, which is a rarity for me. I kept listening to it because I was hoping that something would happen and that the slowness of it would eventually pay off, but even at the 50% mark, it just never did, while continuing to feel like I was slogging my ...more
