This book was long, boring, and repetitive. This is set in 1830's England, where there's a bit of magic produced by translation, but otherwise the world is unchanged. I found this book to read like a dense, grown-up version of the longer Harry Potter books, with languages in place of wands and greedy professors in place of Voldemort. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had any experience with Oxford.
