Although I felt like it dragged on at parts (It took me almost a year to complete this book), the characters were very interesting and the country itself leaves so many questions. I'll continue on to the second book tonight. ...more

I had been saving this trilogy for almost 6 months before I finally sat down to read them because I had a feeling I would be hooked! I was right! Katniss is such a great character & I really enjoyed seeing how each character grappled with the complex moral code that this society had to face with each day. The writing style is comfortable & the narrative really makes you feel like you are there in the arena!

I loved it. Although it started out VERY slow and the characters were boring in the beginning, it really picks up after the Hunger Games began. The characters begin to show their individualities and there was plenty of action. The originality of the story itself is what makes the book. Great dystopian fiction. I went into this book expecting to not like it. I am incredibly sensitive about any novels that involve children now that I am a mother, and just the thought of a premise that involves children being forced to fight each other to the death makes me feel incredibly squeamish. I read it for a book group though, and I was surprised to realize that this was actually a really good novel! There was something about the writing style that kept it very interesting with just the right amount of intensity, ...more

A good and captivating story. Definitely hard to put down. I can see why people are in the "craze" about this book, but what I don't understand is how violent some of the story was involving the actual games. Has a twist to it that makes you wanting the next one, but hopefully the next couple aren't so gruesome. I am curious to what is coming next since the games technically ended in this book...we shall see I guess. ...more
