“I’d have to do the math to know for sure but—I can’t help it, I want to do the math right now,” said Beth absolutely never. I received this as a gift from a friend and, being the science nerd that I am, immensely enjoyed it. I wish that it had a teeny bit more closure and, while I enjoyed the humorous bits thrown in to balance the serious science stuff, I do think it could have been a little less slapstick funny in certain areas.

(Some spoilers ahead)
Things I liked:
- Weir tried to branch out with Artemis (female protagonist, space station, smuggling) and it didn't work so well. Here he's back to his "one man against the universe with only his knowledge of science to help him survive" formula, and it's much more entertaining.
- although the plot is farfetched, at least it's imaginatively far fetched
- the hero/alien friendship is genuinely sweet
- good ending
- I really do appreciate how much actual science research and thoug ...more
