I liked the science-logic (here's a problem, let's split it up into 10000 smaller problems and then solve each one) and briefly didn't even mind Weir's approach - as completely unrealistic and cliched as it was. But about 100 pages and 300 pestiferous asides in, it became a slog - and unfortunately there were about 350 pages more to get through. Oh my goodness!
It is very kind and soft story, full of love and all good things, but horrible things happen and it gets really scary every now and then... the pages 50-30 from the end were so horrifying I almost couldn't finish it, but thankfully I did. The ending is lovely. Jazzhands. ...more

This book blew my mind in the best possible way. There is so much science! I had no idea what it was about when I started it, which made it fun. It is so unique and creative. I especially loved the sweet, unpredictable ending.
Meh. Tedious survival story with epic-scale premise that is never realized; characters are cardboard stand-ins that I never grew any attachment to.
Sensational book- in depth science but not boring. Weir can write.
