What Members Thought
For the most part a well written novel about the Aristocratic society set in New York City during the 1870's. I can understand why this was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in the 1920's. I think most women today are very grateful to not have lived and loved during such a repressive culture. I noticed that the author didn't give us much insight into the lives of those who made it possible for the super wealthy to go about their daily lives. This one I didn’t care for. I didn’t like the main character, I didn’t believe in their love story, everybody seemed to be unhappy with how things turned out and I didn’t like the ending. Overall it was disappointing.
people will be the same forever. always afraid of anything different or unusual & always judging & condeming those who do not have that fear. it was true when this book was written & it is true today.
it was a great read. the characters were well developed - apart from may but i think that is just because i thought she was very manipulative.
