This book came highly recommended, 5-star reviews from people I trust. I’m glad I read it, but it was nowhere near perfect to me.
The book starts off very strongly, but then the story moves twenty years forward (it keeps jumping back and forth in time) and we start following a Travelling Symphony. I found the parts about this troupe consisting of musicians and actors playing Shakespeare the least interesting of all. Its main character, Kirsten, left me indifferent.

It has all the makings of a great post apocalyptic novel but falls terribly short. It felt like the writer had a fabulous idea, got excited in the writing, and then suddenly had a life change and lost interest and jumbled down a final chapter. For as complex as the story was and as many parts and lives that were mentioned and carefully detailed the ending was less than lackluster it was downright disappointing. I would not recommend reading it unless you just have time to invest into characters

This book really hooked me at first, but then it lost some of its steam and intrigue toward the middle of the novel. Some conflicts were opened that dissolved into meaninglessness because it took too long to resolve them. I felt some aspects of the story were super dull, and some characters I really didn't care about were given too much attention.
