If I'd read this book thirteen months ago, it probably would have been just another post-apocalyptic novel (albeit one partly set in Toronto–I love it when I actually know the neighbourhood in a book). I wouldn't have understood the fear and hopelessness of the pandemic part.
I am glad I read this book. I'd advise waiting a few months, though, depending on where you live. I certainly don't suggest reading a book like this on the eve of a new stay-at-home order while case counts are still ramping ...more
