It’s very rare that I listen to audiobooks other than when I’m driving. But even though almost none of the characters are likeable and I’m still not sure whether I’d say I enjoyed the book or not. I was pretty sucked in to it. So much so that it spilled out of the car into everywhere. I listened while cleaning, and while sewing, and grocery shopping. It is hard to believe that Evelyn Hugo isn't real when you read this. The complex character is slowly built up as she tells her life story to her personally chosen biographer, interspersed with some details about Monique, who has been chosen for reasons that are not made clear until the end of the book. I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it is. I'm forced to give it 5 stars! ...more

Another wonderfully provocative and character driven story by this author. I again fully believed the characters, felt sorrow and joy along with them and never wanted the story to end.

I also highly recommend the audiobook for this. It was like listening to a play.
