What a beautifully written book. It made me realize that possibly every book I've ever read about the African-American experience has primarily been about racism and/or slavery. And while we should probably never stop writing and reading about that, this book was just a story about people, which really drove home the point that the Black experience is stand-alone interesting, and not merely as a reflection of interactions with white people.
