What Members Thought

This book was too long -- I feel rather like the King in Amadeus telling MOsart "There are too many notes" but it was at least 25% longer than was necessary. It introduces 2 anti-heroes, one of whom (Boris) might stick with me forever (a la Miss Haversham), while the other (Theo) I hope to lose as quickly as possible.

Feels weird for me to be able to say this but typical Tartt, too long introspective. I could delete at least 100 pages.
On the upside, unbelievable unprecedented way of describing human experience.
Synopsis: only child boy from dysfunctional NYC home/prep school becomes "orphaned" after terorist attack a museum. Set adrift, he goes to all lows including drug alcohol abuse petty theft etc and highs. Art culture theft plays key role in the theme. ...more

I liked the first 1/4 of the book and then it got bogged down by the clear lack of editing being applied to the work; it could have been a fantastic book if it kept up the pace & vivaciousness of the writing earlier but as it was, everything felt just too slow, overdramatic, and not having a good finish. Bit of a drain overall to read.
