When Richard Adams was shopping Watership Down around to publishers, he got a ton of rejections. It was thought younger kids wouldn't like it because it got too sad, and older kids wouldn't because it was about bunnies.

The book eventually found a sizable audience. But I admit, the bunny angle is what kept me from reading it when I was a kid. My loss.

The rabbits in this story must find a new home. One of them has been having visions of their current one being torn apart by humans. Along the way t ...more
