I had read this book once before, years ago, and I seem to recall liking Lestat a lot more. He sort of annoyed me this time. Although I think I liked him better in the books where he's the narrator, so hopefully he'll redeem himself for me again in the later books.
Overall I really enjoyed the book. I think Anne Rice did an excellent job of making the reader understand how Louis feels, and even relate to his feelings. As a result I spent a lot of the book feeling sad, but in a good way. I certain ...more

I can see that when this first came out, and the idea of telling a story from the vampire's point of view was really novel, that it might have been a really interesting book. But reading it now, it was almost dull. I was worried that it would be too sexy...but really there's no romance at all. What it has is a lot of blood and a lot of vampire soul searching. If you like violent vampire philosophy then this is the book for you. If not, maybe you'll give it 2 stars like me.
